In various Poitou legends, the fairies or fades, sometimes described as “ Ladies”, “White Ladies”, or “Damsels”, are in fact often busy doing their laundry close to springs, rivers and lavoirs (washing-places), and can sometimes be found sitting under rocks. They were generally benevolent towards humans.
