Royal Abbey of La Réau

The cultural diversity in Sud-Vienne-Poitou

A jewel in the crown of the Haut-Poitou, a historical monument in a unique green setting and a place of breathtaking beauty!

In the middle of the countryside between Poitiers and Confolens, 80 km from Angoulême and Limoges, and nestling in the wooded valley of the Clain, the Royal Abbey of La Réau welcomes visitors at the end of a long avenue of hundred-year-old lime trees.

It only appears in front of you at the last moment: a majestic abbey church open to the sky, with its convent buildings flanked by a machicolated tower complete with a monumental stairway, restored in the classical era, its 12th century chapter house, its tithe barn, its cellar and also its gardens laid out in the French style.

By visiting this majestic abbey, you will be helping to rescue an exceptional historical monument.
