This is a pond at the entrance to the hamlet of Ebeaupin in the commune of Pindray. Used as a reservoir for drinking water and for fishing, it is unusual in that it is located next to a spring covered by a spherical edicule. Ponds such as this one are fairly common throughout the region traversed by this footpath. They are generally small, naturally-occurring or man-made depressions. Sometimes located next to springs, the reason for their abundance is linked to the sub-soil, and more specifically to the limestone found in the region. Porous and permeable, this karstic rock facilitates the percolation of groundwater wherever aquifers occur. The construction of wells, which was difficult, was therefore limited; hence the abundance of these “pools” which are now regarded as natural, ethnological and occasionally architectural assets.
This circuit is one of 12 circuits known collectively as "Le Gardour", located in the Montmorillon, Jouhet and Pindray area.
