The Bujhade aux Fées or Bujade aux Fées
Located above the confluence of the Equilandes stream and the Salleron, there is a hollow in a rock which is always full of water; according to a legend collected by Father Reix, a former priest of Bourg-Archambault and Saint-Léomer and local historian, the fairies used to come there early in the morning to wash their caps. They did their laundry there, or their bujhade or bujade as it was called in the local dialect.
In various Poitou legends, the fairies or fades, sometimes described as “ Ladies”, “White Ladies”, or “Damsels”, are in fact often busy doing their laundry close to springs, rivers and lavoirs (washing-places), and can sometimes be found sitting under rocks. They were generally benevolent towards humans.
This circuit is one of 12 circuits known collectively as "La Bujade aux Fées", located in the Lathus-Saint-Rémy, Bourg-Archambault, Saint Léomer and Brigueil-le-Chantre area.
