Springs abound in this region, as they do throughout the countryside in general. Springs on hillsides, springs emerging in woods, wells constructed in the centre of hamlets, etc. So many places where running water makes healthcare, bathing, rituals, etc. and life itself possible.
These springs are evidence of the presence of deep, ancient aquifers in the subsoil.
In the absence of historical documentation, clues as to the history of these springs and wells can be found in their etymology: these objects of worship become the goals of pilgrimages due to their healing powers, or meeting places for humans or evil spirits; they have always given rise to legendary and poetic events.
This footpath provides access to these mysterious sites, now forgotten and frequently destroyed, which only survive in place names and in the memories of older members of the population. During your walk, look out for: the Font-Crapaud (Toad’s Spring), the Font Guérissante (Healing Spring), the Font au Blé (Wheat Spring), the Vignes de Font-Claude, the Moulin de la Font (Mill by the Spring), the Font Lion, the Font Mérigot, the Font de la Fiolle, etc.
This circuit is one of 6 circuits known collectively as "La Font de la Fiolle", located in the Brigueil-le-Chantre, La Trimouille and Thollet area.
